Take a minute and ask yourself a couple of questions. Do you belong to a club, team or organization that could host an event in Greater Lansing? Do you ever leave town to attend conferences, conventions or sports tournaments? If so, you could be the next Greater Lansing Community Champion! What does that mean? Allow me to explain.

When conventions and meetings and sports tournaments are held in our community, the local economy gets a tremendous shot in the arm. You see, that influx of people with lodging needs and other consumer needs generates major income for Greater Lansing businesses. Over $602 million in spending and about 11,000 local jobs happen because of these out-of-town dollars. How do you get involved? Advocate for your hometown as a host city when planning comes up for something you are involved in! Here's an example. Larry is a Lansing resident and has worked for General Motors for 20 years. No, he doesn’t plan meetings for his job, he works on the line making Chevys! Larry in his free time however is a Corvette enthusiast and he has the most beautiful black 1973 Chevy Corvette you ever saw, and he likes to show it as part of a statewide Corvette Club. That Corvette Club has shows and get togethers all over the state. One year, Larry suggests to the planning committee they meet in Greater Lansing. He contacts the Greater Lansing CVB and they take it from there, helping the club planning committee with hotel rooms, outings, sponsors and area businesses to get involved to make the show great. Lansing wins because of the economic boost from the hundreds of attendees. The Corvette Club wins because they have a host city for their event that is proud to have them and ready to treat them like royalty and Larry wins because now he doesn’t have to go a long way for the next show, and he can showcase his town.
