February 2023

President's Message

Julie Pingston, President

I am excited to welcome you at this time next month for the 2023 GLCVB Annual Meeting as we gather together at The Venue by Eleven 11 Events located in the Lansing Mall. We have been analyzing the final numbers for 2022 and we have some positive information to share and momentum that will carry us through 2023. We will also be recognizing some hospitality heroes and look forward to sharing their stories with you! I hope you will be able to join us on March 2 from 8:30-10:00 am as we review 2022 and look forward to the exciting things happening in 2023!

I hope you caught the news that Meghan Ziehmer was elevated to serve as the Executive Director of the Greater Lansing Sports Authority. Meghan has been with the team since 2009 and spearheaded many of the larger events we have hosted over the years including the most recent NCAA Division III Cross Country Nationals. I’m looking forward to her leadership and creative ideas to keep advancing our position in the amateur sports market. Stay warm and thanks for all your support! Please reach out to me at jpingston@lansing.org if I can assist you in any way. Thank you!

Julie

February 19 is no longer an implementation date for an increased minimum wage or tipped wage. The Michigan minimum wage will remain at $10.10 per hour and the Michigan tipped minimum wage remains at $3.84 per hour. There will also be no changes to the current paid sick leave requirements. This is a result of the Michigan Court of Appeals issuing a ruling in the case Mothering Justice v. Attorney General on January 26th. The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the State that Michigan's constitution does not prevent Michigan's Legislature from adopting and amending a ballot proposal in the same legislative session.
