November 2022
President's Message
The month of November brings national and international excitement to our community though four sporting events hosted and coordinated by our Greater Lansing Sports Authority. The events will bring more than 1,000 athletes, and an additional 3,000 officials, coaches and spectators to our region to compete, enjoy all our community has to offer and provide significant economic impact to the region.
In a first for the Greater Lansing region, the U.S. National Women’s Senior Team Handball will compete against Team Canada to qualify for the Pan American Games, the first qualifying step to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The U.S. Team will conduct a two- week training camp at Lansing City Arena in Delta Township, followed by the match on November 10 at 7:00 pm.
The following week 105 professional tennis players from over 15 countries will compete in the Mid-Michigan Tennis Association’s Capital City Tennis Classic. The event occurs November 13-22 at the MSU Tennis Center.
Partnering with Olivet College and the NCAA, we will host the NCAA DIII Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championship. The event will host the top 40 men’s and 40 women’s teams from across the country at Forest Akers Golf Course, November 19. This is the first time the event has been held in our region.
Figure Skating takes center ice November 6-10 as Suburban Ice East Lansing hosts the U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern Sectional Singles and U.S. Pairs Finals. Athletes from seven states will be represented and all events are open to the public with tickets available at the door.
Spectators are encouraged to cheer on these athletes and volunteer opportunities are available as well. More information can be found at Greater Lansing to Host Four National Sports Events - Bringing 4,000 visitors.

Learn MoreThe Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau (GLCVB) and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority (GLSA) are leading a research-driven, branding initiative for both organizations as we strive to serve the region and be top of mind for future visitors, events and conventions. We are currently working with North Star to conduct research inside and outside the area to uncover perceptions, attitudes and what’s special about Greater Lansing as a place to visit and how it should be promoted by our teams.
All are encouraged to complete this community survey. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and is open to all in the Greater Lansing area. The information is collected anonymously and presented in an aggregate form. The goal is to hear from at least 2,000 people so feel free to share this link with your staff, colleagues, family and friends.
Respondents will be entered into a drawing for a $100 VISA gift card. Deadline to respond is November 30, 2022.
Thank you in advance for your participation! For more information about this initiative, visit GreaterLansingGreat.com.
