President's Message
It’s a busy time for the hospitality industry especially with MSU’s Commencement weekend upon us. It will be amazing to see families arrive to campus to celebrate with their graduates after an absence of the full commencement experience. Thank you to our industry for taking care of all of our guests during this very busy weekend in our community!!
I was able to attend the ribbon cutting for the Department of Energy’s Facility for Rare Isotope Beams at Michigan State University on May 2. The path to this week’s ceremony began in 2008 when MSU was selected as the site for the FRIB. This project broke ground in 2014 and has now completed under budget and ahead of schedule. While a project involving nuclear science does not naturally connect to the tourism and hospitality industry, we look forward to welcoming scientists from around the world to our region as they travel here to conduct ground-breaking research projects within the facility. Those coming to use the FRIB represent more than 100 universities in the U.S. and 250 institutions from 50 countries internationally. Our region will also be hosting a variety of conferences and symposiums related to the FRIB. It is an exciting time for our region to be leading the world in nuclear research and discovery!
Thanks for all your support! Please reach out to me at jpingston@lansing.org if I can assist you in any way. Thank you!
Julie

Impression 5 Science Center celebrated its 50th birthday on April 20th with a capital campaign kick off event to raise $5 million dollars to take the science center to the next 50 years. Lansing, MI –Terry Terry was honored by the Jazz Alliance of Mid-Michigan (JAMM) for his contributions to jazz at their annual awards tribute held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at UrbanBeat in Old Town, Lansing.
Terry has helped the once-neglected area of Lansing, and he has catalyzed the community’s expansion through the arts. Terry, the 13th JAMM honoree, has spent much of the past three decades bringing art to the streets of Old Town.
He’s the co-founder of JazzFest Michigan and serves as President of the Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art (MICA), the nonprofit producer of JazzFest Michigan and Michigan BluesFest.
Over the past few years, Terry has turned UrbanBeat into a live music venue and a listening room where music is respected as something that can break down barriers — economic, educational, and racial.
The GLCVB would like to thank Robin Goodenough, Assistant General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Lansing West for over 35 years of service to the hospitality industry. Congratulations on your retirement Robin!
