July 2025

President's Message

Julie Pingston

Spring was an exhilarating time throughout the region for tourism.  We hosted many meetings, conventions, advocacy days, tournaments, championships and competitions.  MSU’s Commencement started May off with thousands of graduates and their families celebrating milestone student achievements on campus. Our Lansing Sports Commission hosted the USA Archery’s Collegiate Target Nationals in mid-May at Hope Sports Complex.  Nearly 500 archers from around the country competed in this prestigious event while our team handled all the details including the overnight damage to the competition site from high winds during a severe thunderstorm to keep the event on track.  At the end of May, we hosted 8,000 competitors and their families to the MSU campus for Odyssey of the Mind’s World Finals. We were able to join the Odyssey leadership as they toured MSU’s President Kevin Guskiewicz around the event and watch as he made his own batch of slime with the team from Switzerland.

President Guskiewicz wrote in his most recent Letter to the Spartan Community that “MSU’s hospitality represents another vital service to our community and state.”  We thank him for recognizing the important role tourism and hospitality play in our community!  It is wonderful to have strong partners throughout our community that see the $732 million economic impact the visitor economy provides.

As we hit full stride coming into July I hope you've had the opportunity to sign up for our Lansing  Experience Pass and Craft Beverage Pass. They offer great discounts and incentives to get out and explore the region this summer.

For our CTAs, stay tuned for details for the 15th Anniversary event scheduled for mid-August. We're looking forward to celebrating with you!

Please reach out to me at jpingston@lansing.org if I can assist you in any way.  Thank you!
