President's Message

Julie Pingston, Crowne Plaza Wall

In the most recent industry newsletter from Travel Michigan, Dave Lorenz stated “it should be no surprise that many of us in the travel industry and in society in general are showing signs of emotional exhaustion.”  Yes…we agree!  This is the sentiment of those in the Lansing region’s tourism and hospitality industry for the past eighteen months.  As I mentioned back in March at the GLCVB’s Annual Meeting, if any industry can keep persevering, it’s this one!  We are creative and resilient and while we may be short staffed, frustrated, and tired, we must remember that we don’t need to do it all at once.  We just need to do it right!  Together we can continue our comeback as an industry!

On that note, I’m excited to share further details about the Strategic Recovery Planning session the GLCVB Board and Staff will be engaging in with the consultant DMOProz to focus on the recovery for the industry.  As an organization, we’re looking at doing things differently during this time of recovery and transition and we would appreciate any insights you would like to share.  Please click here to participate in the community stakeholder survey for all members to be able to provide input into this important process to implement the most productive strategies as we move toward 2022.

Thank you to all who have renewed their membership with the GLCVB!  We are looking forward to working with you throughout your membership year and we appreciate your support!

As always, please reach out to me at jpingston@lansing.org if I can assist you in any way.  Thank you!

Julie

Your Valued Input is Needed

The GLCVB Board and Staff will be engaging with the consultant DMOProz in a Strategic Recovery Planning Session.  As an organization, we’re looking at doing things differently during this time of recovery and transition, and we would appreciate any insights you would like to share. We welcome opinions and visions of what the future of the visitor economy in the greater Lansing area might look like.

Please click here to participate in the community stakeholder survey. It's important to us that our members provide input into this important process to implement the most productive strategies as we move toward 2022.

Please complete this survey by Tuesday, September 14th. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and reported back only in the aggregate when the GLCVB Board convenes to develop its Strategic Recovery Plan.

Thank you in advance for your participation!

Membership Renewal

Membership 101 Email HeaderThank you to all our members who have already submitted payments for 2021-2022 dues year. If you have not done so already, please submit your dues payment by October 1, 2021. Pay your membership dues now at www.lansing.org/memberpayThank you!

Last year due to the pandemic we waived membership dues. We are so thankful that this year we are in a much different position. We are seeing that the demand for summer travel has never been higher. With those positive thoughts in mind, the GLCVB has issued membership dues invoices to our partners for the next dues renewal cycle which is July 2021 through June 2022.

The GLCVB has been working hard to help our members get through these trying times. A few of the things we have done to help move the industry forward include:

  • Heightened advocacy efforts to bring recognition to the hospitality industry, both locally and at the state and national levels.
  • Promotion of the Greater Lansing Safe Pledge – which has signed on over 150 local businesses.
  • Timely notifications regarding new COVID policies, grant opportunities, etc.
  • Virtual educational opportunities on marketing initiatives, PPP loans, COVID protocols and more.
  • Implementation of a “Safe Meetings” webpage and video to promote the area as a safe destination for meetings and events, highlighting our hotels and facilities to event planners.
  • Targeted marketing efforts to reach community members as well as future visitors. Showcasing our restaurant, retail, attraction and hotel members through blog posts and social media.
  • Member Mentions on social media to help promote member activities and business services.

Thank you for your loyal partnership. We believe in our #LoveLansing businesses and we will get through this together – and in the process, make our hospitality community stronger than ever before.
