Happy New Year in LansingThe year has come to an end and its time to find a new calendar and pencil in some new dates and to plan to get to some different places in the upcoming year. Dont worry, Ill still attend my favorite festivals and definitely save a Sunday here and there for snuggling on the couch with a good book or lingering in my jammies over my morning coffee and Sudoku. But Im going to find time to visit some nearby places that I havent been to in a while and do some things that Ive not done in recent yearsor havent ever done. Check out even more fun Things to do in Lansing on our website.

January Cross Country ski at Fitzgerald Park. Seriously, why havent I done this before? I have no excuse that I dont have the equipmentthey have rentals. And if I really wanted to get a workout, I could walk there.

FebruarySnow tubing at Hawk Island Snow Park. Hmm. Really? I might be getting a bit too old for this. But its brand new and theyve got the tubes there. This should be fun with a capital flying-down-the-hill F. Ill leave the snowboard rails to the young pups.

March Snowshoeing at Harris Nature Center. Well, once again, no excuses. They have both Cross-Country and snowshoe rentals. This sounds like a fabulous idea. But Ive heard its a bit tricky. So maybe just a hike through the trails at Fenner to look for critter tracks in the snow.

April Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival. Okay, now. Theyve got a maple syrup queen. Enough said. Im willing to go a little country for some sweet, freshly tapped syrup especially if it involves a parade. I also want to head out to the MSU sheep barn and do a little lamb oohhing and ahhhhing. Come on. Whats cuter than a sweet little lamb?

May Victorian Festival in Grand Ledge. The Victorian era used to be my favorite until I heard about the lack of hygiene. Did everybody just smell before deodorant was invented? Now I can enjoy it without having to wear a clothespin on my nose. Sweet, indeed.

June Red Cedar Jubilee in Williamston. I just need to just get back to Williamston to check out the cute antique shops and make a stop at the Red Cedar Grill. Its been way too long.

July Eaton or Ingham County Fair. Lordy, I havent been to a county fair in forever. Unless you count the Jersey Shore boardwalk each summer, which is vaguely reminiscent of a county fair-east coast style. Im gonna buy me a deep fried twinkie, too.

August Bath Days Festival in Bath, DeWitt Ox Roast in DeWitt, Mint Festival in St. Johns and Dam Festival in Eaton Rapids. I will consider August my go to a neighboring community festival month. Note to self: Purchase some jean shorts and a fanny pack.

September Frontier Days Charlotte. CowboysHorsesenough said. Giddy-up.

October Michigan Great Lakes International Draft Horse Show and Pull at the MSU Pavilion. Bigger horses, more giddy-up.

November East Lansing Film Festival. Dont laugh, but I feel very cultured when I watch an independent film. I enjoyed myself years ago at this and I need to get back.

December Old Town Dickens Village. This is Old Town Lansing dressed up in its Christmas finest with strolling Dickens characters. I love the regular Old Town characters, so this will be an added bonus.

So thats my list. Oh, dont worry. Ive got the weight loss and the exercise more and the kick the habit stuff on a different piece of paper. But this is the fun list, the do-able with friends list, and the no guilt list. Whats on yours?
