For a guy that can't play a lick, I sure do love an awesome musical instrument haven in Greater Lansing, lovingly known as Elderly Instruments. Call it intense musical appreciation, but yes I love this shop even though I can no more play guitar than I can turn myself invisible. Maybe its not just my love for music, and the mystery behind instruments that one person can make sound like musical gold and another sound like a cat being hit with a tennis racquet, but also my love for old things. Elderly Instruments, as you can guess from the name, is full to the brim with vintage used instruments of all shapes, sizes, colors and sounds. Not only is this a huge shop where you can buy just about everything with strings, they also have a robust, world-renowned online/mail order business, as well as private lessons and a repair shop. Top brands of awesome instruments adorn the walls and display racks showcasing guitars, violins, mandolins, banjos, ukuleles, 12-strings, classical, bass guitars and even a few dulcimer varieties. I'm telling you, whether you can play or not its just fun to see them, all the different styles, and think of what amazing music they are capable in the hands of masters. Right along with the tons of fantastic musical instruments there are also plenty of well-versed employees who know all about the inventory and are ready for any and all questions you might have. If you are a musician, Elderly Instruments is a best-in-class playground full of top-notch equipment like you'll rarely find. As a non-musician but music lover, like me, you see this building full of magical potential, and tons of CD's and musical DVD's to take your musical appreciation as far as it can go. Because of the power and reach of the web, Elderly Instruments is available for music lovers all over the world, but as far as the brick and mortar shop, we're very lucky to have it located right here in Greater Lansing. I may only able to play a kazoo, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate this den of premium instruments, which is, in my opinion, the jewel of Old Town. Come check it out!
