Lansing Art Gallery Board of Directors voted unanimously to relocate the 45-year old organization citing expansion and accessibility as the key reasons for the decision. "Lack of accessibility to second level exhibition spaces and the need for a larger education space were the impetus for the Board of Directors to seek a new location," stated Lansing Art Gallery Board President, Dan Warmels.

Lansing Art Gallery, currently located at 113 South Washington Square, will relocate to 119 N. Washington Square in January 2011. The new home, located in the lower level of 119 N. Washington Square, has elevator access for the public as well as a freight elevator for artists. In addition to elevator access, Lansing Art Gallery's new home has a classroom for additional arts education.

"I am excited about the new location. Lansing Art Gallery provides exceptional programs to the community, introducing the visual arts to thousands each year. Its mission to provide public awareness, education, and enjoyment of the visual arts by promoting the works of Michigan artists depends on ease of access for all," states Catherine Babcock, Executive Director.

For more than 45 years, Lansing Art Gallery has offered access to the public at no cost making the new location accessible both economically and physically. Lansing Art Gallery's new location is accessible to more than 47,000 downtown employees and students, in addition to 461,000 tri-county residents and tourists. "Lansing Art Gallery's decision to remain in downtown is vital. Downtown Lansing Inc. is committed to creating a thriving world-class city and Lansing Art Gallery is an important part of that mission," states Mindy Biladeau, Downtown Lansing Inc. Executive Director.

Founded by a handful of dedicated artists and art patrons, the Gallery became the first permanent art gallery in Lansing and remains Lansing oldest nonprofit gallery. Memberships, contributions, grants, education classes, and the sale of artwork fund the programs of the Gallery.
