Local Construction Projects

The GLCVB will be posting all known construction projects, maps, detours, and any updates we have and will do our best to stay current throughout the construction season. Our partners are welcome to link directly to the construction page and we welcome suggestions on what to include.

Michigan Department of Transportation State Projects

Start: March 2013     End: September 2013
What we are doing:
  • This spring, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will add an auxiliary lane along southbound US-127 between Lake Lansing Road and M-43 (Grand River Avenue), and between M-43 (Saginaw Street) and the I-496 interchange. The new auxiliary lanes will ease traffic flow and congestion through the corridor, and improve safety for motorists.
  • MDOT also will make repairs to several bridges along the corridor, including at Lake Lansing Road, State Road, and over the old Conrail Railroad, just south of the I-69 interchange.

How will traffic be affected?
  • Construction of the new auxiliary lanes - Two lanes of traffic will be open along southbound US-127 with a traffic
hift. In addition, the ramp from M-43 (Saginaw Street) to southbound US-127 will be closed with a detour posted. The ramp is expected to close in mid-May when spring semester is complete at Michigan State University and will reopen by late August.
  • Bridge work on US-127 - Two lanes will be open in each direction during the day, with lane closures possible at night and on weekends. In addition, there will be a period where US-127 traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction for a total of seven days.
  • Lake Lansing Road traffic over US-127 - Two westbound lanes will be open, and one eastbound lane open, with a traffic shift. There also will be short-term closures of the ramps during construction.
  • State Road - One lane of traffic will be open with a temporary signal.

Sign up for email alerts about MDOT projects. Construction alerts are available by email for major road projects.

All work is weather dependent. Construction schedules are subject to change, based on contractor's decisions and weather.
