Capital Area District Library Presents Michigan Notable Authors

Each year the Library of Michigan honors books and authors that bring the Michigan experience to vivid life. The Capital Area District Library (CADL) is proud to host presentations by two of this year's authors, talking about their work and inspirations. Books will be available for sale and signing, with seating on a first-come basis.

On May 18 at 6:30 pm, CADL and its community partner, Bestsellers Books & Coffee Company of Mason, welcome Michael R. Federspiel, author of Picturing Hemingway's Michigan. This beautiful book of photos offers a unique look into Ernest Hemingway's time at Michigan's Walloon Lake, which provided the setting and influences for his early formative writing. Federspiel offers a glimpse into both the life of a young Hemingway and summertime in northern Michigan. He will appear at Bestseller's Books & Coffee Company, 360 S. Jefferson St. in Mason.

On May 26, CADL welcomes John Gallagher, author of Reimagining Detroit: Opportunities for Redefining an American City. Gallagher, who has covered urban redevelopment for the Detroit Free Press for two decades, spent a year researching the issues facing Detroit. Rather than simply listing the problems, Reimagining Detroit showcases the innovative community-building work that's currently happening in the Motor City. It also suggests what can be done to rebuild a leaner, greener, and more economically self-sufficient city. For Lansing area residents, the important question is: "What can we learn from this project, and how can it be applied to Michigan's Capital City?"

Join CADL as we partner with Greater Lansing Area Capital Gains to present a night of reimagining cities on May 26 at 7:00 pm, held at Art Alley, 1133 S. Washington Ave., in Lansing's historic REO Town.
