Most visitors to the Michigan State Capitol come to tour the building, observe legislative session, or participate in the legislative process by meeting with legislators or testifying before legislative committees. The goal of the Michigan State Capitol Commission and Capitol staff is to ensure that every person visiting the Michigan State Capitol is treated with respect. Everyone should be able to enjoy a tour, observe the legislature, and participate in the legislative process.

  • Directions: FROM NORTH: 127 South to 496 West. Take 496 West to Grand Avenue (Exit 7A). Turn right (north) on Grand Avenue. Go approximately 6 blocks to Michigan Avenue. Turn left (west) on Michigan Avenue. Go approximately 2 blocks to Capital Avenue. The Capitol is directly in front of you at the corner of Capital Avenue and Michigan Avenue (Michigan deadends into Capital). FROM EAST: 96 West to 127 North (Exit 106B). Take 127 North to 496 West. Take 496 West to Grand Avenue (Exit 7A). Turn right (north) on Grand Avenue. Go approximately 6 blocks to Michigan Avenue. Turn left (west) on Michigan Avenue. Go approximately 2 blocks to Capital Avenue. The Capitol is directly in front of you at the corner of Capital Avenue and Michigan Avenue (Michigan deadends into Capital). FROM SOUTH: 127 North to 496 West. Take 496 West to Grand Avenue (Exit 7A). Turn right (north) on Grand Avenue. Go approximately 6 blocks to Michigan Avenue. Turn left (west) on Michigan Avenue.   • Hours of Operation: Open Mon.–Fri. 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (Guided tours only. Please call ahead to verify tour times.) Tours conducted every 1/2 hour. Summer tours are conducted on the hour.
