Manager, Graphic Design & Content Marketing

Mission Statement

The mission of the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau is to positively impact the area’s economy by marketing the region as a travel destination.  We are a non-profit organization that markets Greater Lansing as a destination for meetings and conventions, sporting events, and leisure travel.

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our marketing communications team.  This position reports to the vice president of marketing communications and is responsible for the design and development of marketing content that drives engagement and effectively promotes Greater Lansing as a travel destination.

Desired Qualifications

Our potential candidate will be self-driven, motivated, and results oriented, with the ability to work as a team player.  Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.   Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of three years of experience in communications, marketing, graphic design or related field preferred. Hospitality industry experience desired.

Responsibilities
  1. Utilize digital technologies to write and design marketing materials (both print and digital) that effectively promote the Lansing region.
  2. Work in collaboration with Sales, Sports and Visitor Services to design marketing and promotional materials that effectively promote Greater Lansing and ensure successful meetings and events.
  3. Create both written and graphic content for Bureau websites, e-newsletters and social media outlets, in collaboration with other MarCom staff. Evaluate and implement appropriate promotional programs to attract additional users and tracks analytics.  
  4. In collaboration with other Bureau staff, coordinate promotional efforts for special events such as: Be A Tourist In Your Own Town, March Magic Hoopfest, etc.
  5. Work in collaboration with other Bureau staff to help drive engagement to Bureau’s social outlets, monitor trends, implement plans, and track analytics for all Bureau social media programs.
  6. Work in collaboration with other Bureau staff to manage content calendar for Bureau blogs, social media, videos, leisure e-news and websites.
  7. Shoot and edit photos/videos to use as a marketing tool to effectively promote Greater Lansing. Maintain Bureau’s photo/video library utilizing Bridge and Lightroom software.
  8. Support media relations efforts. Ensure that all media lists are up-to-date and maintains relevant MarCom contacts in Simpleview database.
  9. Administrative duties including data entry and maintenance of Simpleview database.
  10. Support community relations and promotional efforts by representing the GLCVB at various tradeshows, meetings and events.
  11. Negotiate appropriate contracts, agreements and various third party matters.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Sales Manager

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced sales manager to join our sales team in selling Greater Lansing as a destination for meetings and events. This position is responsible for prospecting new business in defined markets, including the Michigan State University market.  It requires developing and fostering relationships with meeting planners to create new business and to sustain existing business.   Our Sales department works in collaboration with our Marketing and Convention Services departments to provide an excellent experience for clients. 

Desired Qualifications

Our potential candidate will be self-driven, motivated, and results oriented, with the ability to work as a team player in achievement of sales goals.  Outstanding oral and written communication skills are required.  Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and diplomacy internally and in a variety of public contact situations.   A working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Minimum of 5 years in experience in sales and relationship building preferred.  Experience in the hospitality industry strongly preferred.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to contribute and get involved with the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau. Volunteers are needed for events throughout the year such as, Be A Tourist In Your Own Town. For more information, email Jennifer Hagen

Greater Lansing Sports Authority 

Assist the Greater Lansing Sports Authority with various athletic tournaments and events throughout the community. Events are primarily on weekends. Duties range from registration assistance to supporting athletes' needs. These events provide the perfect backdrop for corporate team building or high school community service credits.
