Ive been reluctant to even acknowledge the heat wave that Lansing has been experiencing in the last week. Im always afraid of calling attention to something wonderfulin case I jinx it and our March 80-degree-days would revert back to our typical 35-degree-days complete withsleeting, blowing normal March weather. Throw in a surprise snow or icestorm in Apriland a Michigan winter is complete. However, could we, could we really, be in for a super mild winter and an extremely early spring? My skeptical/practical side says "no way, keep the snow shovel by the back door," but my glass-half-full side wants ice cream and flip flop weatherfrom now on! So Im going out on a limb and giving you my favorite ice cream places in the area. Because its hot and theyre cool. And frankly Ican theoreticallystill eat ice cream with no problem when its snowing. Here'sa list of my favoriteice cream haunts.
- MSU Dairy Store, 2100 S. Anthony Hall, MSU, East Lansing. Take a drive up Farm Lane between Shaw and Wilson. Keep an eye out for the ice cream cone banners. Also keep an eye out and feed your meter.
- Spartys Sundae, 716 N. Clippert St., Lansing. Serving Michigans Hudsonville ice cream. Heres a great way to buy local.
- Maggie Moos Ice Cream and Treatery, 2981 Preyde Blvd., Lansing. This is THE place to sit and relax and enjoy a cool treat while youre shopping at Eastwood Towne Center. Ask them to mix in your favorite add-ins like jimis, nuts, or oreo bits.
- Cold Stone Creamery, 2350 Cedar St. Holt. Part of Tim Hortons, Cold Stone Creamery has some swingin creations like Mud Pie Mojo or Our Strawberry Blonde.
And I thought you might just enjoy this little addition. Because Ms. Piggy rocks.
