Greater Lansing is a car town, and these beauties are Classic Americana - Pure and Simple American Horsepower.

Anyone who has ever been to Greater Lansing knows the area has a fantastic transportation and automotive history. As the birthplace of Oldsmobile, Michigan's Capital City is a major hub for not only cool permanent auto museums and lore, but some of the best classic car shows you'll find in the entire Midwest. Lucky for you and me a few of these very occasions are coming up in the next few days. The first of the two events is the 2014 REO Club of America Annual Meet, set to be held at the Crowne Plaza Lansing Hotel at 925 South Creyts Road in Lansing. This is a huge event, mostly for the REO (Ransom Eli Olds, of Course) owners themselves, but the attendees treat the general public to a phenomenal car show on the last day of their special event, July 17th, 2014. From car show to swap meet the Crowne Plaza will be the site for some classic rolling steel that all gear heads will really want to see.

Later on in July is the 2014 Car Capital Celebration, set for July 26th at the Michigan State Capitol and the surrounding streets. This is a real biggie, and it takes over downtown, filling the streets with chrome, hot paint jobs, squeaky clean engines and interiors that are nothing short of pristine. There will be hundreds of entries fighting for top honors among 74 vehicle classes, 16 motorcycle classes and prizes including 5 large roll-away toolboxes and over $6,000 in cash. This is the 22nd annual Car Capital Celebration so it is a long-tenured celebration of classic American automotive ingenuity and it brings the best vehicles and major fans of vehicles as well. Of course the scene is in full effect, so expect great food vendors, live DJ and lots of happy faces. Take to the streets of downtown Lansing on July 26th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and keep the drool to yourself! These cars are hot, but the owners don't like people messing them up. WE are Lansing and we've got grease in our blood. Come see for yourself. Get more information about both of these events at the RE Olds Transportation Museum website.
