Do you ever walk into a reception room at a conference or convention feeling a little socially awkward and think, "Well, I've introduced myself - Now what do I talk about?!" I'm guessing a lot of you have been in this awkward and lonely boat. I’ve been to many mixers, event receptions and conference socials and the ones that have a unique signature cocktail make it very easy to start a conversation with someone you don’t know yet, but want to get to know better as a potential business contact.

Proof that the Greater Lansing hospitality community is responding to growing visitation trends is showing all over town as the area welcomes five new hotels into the region. Two are currently under construction, three have been green-lighted for development. The new lodging properties, two in East Lansing, one in Delta Township, one in Okemos and another in Lansing Township near Eastwood Towne Center, will bring over 600 new guest rooms to the community.

The Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau (GLCVB) is pleased to announce Beth Hoschner, CTA, has been named Customer Relationship Management & Technology Systems Manager. She will direct the day to day management of the organization’s CRM system, provide CRM training to our members and partners and serve as liaison to the organization’s IT and technology providers.

As a meeting professional, we often get “caught in the weeds”.  We feel so trapped in the logistics of day-to-day, conference-to-conference, BEO to BEO, that we don’t think about WHO we are and the human side of our job. The most common question I am asked by social, military and religious event planners is ‘what are some creative solutions for planning events on tight budgets?’ Based on the group and their specific needs I have five solid creative budget considerations that can make an event great at a fraction of the cost.
